That is the question author and illustrator ⁠Lisa Perrin⁠ set out to answer, and you might be surprised by what she discovered. Released in September of this year, The League of Lady Poisoners delves into stories of women from all over the globe, some you know and some you don't, but the common thread between them being their means -- and sometimes, even their motives.

On April 28th, 1908, news of the Gunness home having gone up in flames spread quickly through LaPorte, Indiana. Some recalled the dire cries of warning coming from the farm’s owner, Belle Gunness, that her farmhand had threatened to burn the home down with her and her children inside, and it seemed like he had finally acted on it. Four bodies were found in the wreckage of the home, but upon closer inspection, a more macabre picture started to take shape.

Anneliese Michel was a student who started to experience symptoms of epilepsy as a teenager, but every medical treatment she tried seemed to fail and she proceeded to get worse. Having grown up in an extremely devout Catholic family, those around her began to suspect her symptoms weren't related to mental or physical illness at all, but of demonic possession. After repeated appeals to bishops in the provincial, local area of southern German, one bishop finally approved the request which led deadly consequences.

This case is a particularly rough one, but it's even more important to share. Brittany takes us through the case that inspired Megan's law, the federal law in the United States requiring law enforcement authorities to make information available to the public regarding registered sex offenders.
